PSD Tools

The CPB-funded PSD Standards Project has developed a number of tools to help you visualize PSD, create and validate PSD messages, manage costs, and more. Here's a quick guide to what we've created or helped to create.

PRI's Tools for PSD Deployment

1. PSD Mockups
Check out these mock ups of many different forms of PSD. Use these to frame discussions around PSD implementation, policy and workflow at your station.

2. Financial Template
Download this MS Excel spreadsheet to help project PSD implementation costs and on-going revenue and expenses associated with offering various forms of PSD to your audience.

3. XML Widget

Download and host this tool on your own server to create local PSD for promos, underwriting, PSAs, etc… To see a demo of how this tool works, go here or paste this address into your browser: http://extranet.ccae.org/dev/PRI/

4. C24 and Composer Tools –
Public Interactive’s web-based tools create station-specific PSD with hour-by-hour, segment-by-segment, and/or song-level detail.

5. PSD Wiki

Fully interactive Wiki for stations to share PSD implementation tips and tricks.

6. PSD XML

PRI's "standardized container" for text data associated with Public Radio programs, released under Creative Commons open license allowing for development by interested third parties.

7. W3C-compliant XML Schema and Document Type Definition (DTD)

Allows automated validation of PRI PSD documents by external applications, and provides a method to ensure that all code generated adheres to the suggested protocol.

8. Metadata Mapping

Provides mapping between PRI PSD, PBCore, and ID3 allowing for interoperability between various PSD schemes.

B. Other Tools for PSD Deployment

1. PRX Tools

PRX has successfully prototyped delivery of content to stations, inclusive of PSD in XML as companion data to audio essence.

2. PRSS PSD

Shortly after the full launch of the new Content Depot, PRSS will offer tools to collect and deliver PSD within Content Depot (i.e. cartchunk-based PSD).

3. Broadcast Electronics (BE) Producer Tools

Currently testing forms-based producer tools for creation of PSD with PRI’s The World. General release projected for second quarter of 2007.
