About PSD

Program Service Data, or PSD, is a text stream made possible by digital technology. (You may have heard of this by its previous name: Program Associated Data, or PAD. The Powers That Be at Ibiquity went and changed it on us.)

PSD allows your station to broadcast text, such as artist/title information, in synch with your digital audio broadcast. Listeners see this text in a little window on their HD Radio™ receivers. Why should you care about PSD (and you should)? Click here.   Want a more formal definition?Click here.

Goals

We're trying to do two things in this CPB-funded project: 1. map out the easiest, most cost-efficient way for you to implement PSD, and 2. jumpstart your thinking about what kind of content public radio should offer via PSD. Because although we are an Industry of Snowflakes, with no two of us exactly alike, we also aren't like those Commercial Guys, either, and that needs some discussion.

Tangibles
But of course.
