ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Changing Gears: Remaking the Manufacturing Belt, a
fresh new multi-media series focusing on the future of the Industrial
Midwest, will air its inaugural installments beginning the week of Monday,
September 20, 2010. Michigan Radio will air the series, which examines
topics from the region's financial outlook and its status as a new center
for film production to its signature food offerings, during Morning Edition
(5:00 - 9:00am) and All Things Considered (4:00 - 6:30pm). There will
also be a special Changing Gears call-in show broadcast on Friday, Sept. 24
from 3:00 - 4:00pm.

The Environment Report received a second place award in the "Outstanding Beat/In-Depth Reporting, Radio" category, for the documentary "Coal: Dirty Past, Hazy Future."

ANN ARBOR, MI – The Environment Report from Michigan Radio has been recognized for excellence in broadcast journalism by the Radio Television Digital News Association with a 2010 National Edward R. Murrow Award. The Environment Report received the award for Best Audio News Series in the Radio Network category for “Dioxin Delays”. In the five part series, The Environment Report's Shawn Allee investigated Dow Chemical and the on-going problem of dioxin contamination in mid-Michigan. The reports looked at who has been affected by the contamination, why it has taken so long to clean up, how dioxin research has affected the clean up, and what this case means for other polluted areas around of the country. The series was originally broadcast in November, 2009.

Michigan Radio Raises Record Amount during Spring Membership Drive

ANN ARBOR, MI — Michigan Radio, the public radio service of the University of Michigan, finished a very successful spring membership drive on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. The on-air fundraiser, which ran from March 17-24, generated over 7,000 pledges totaling more than $730,000 from donors throughout the station’s listening area. Of that, more than 2,400 pledges came from first time donors to the station. The $730,000 amount is a record for a spring membership drive at the station.

ANN ARBOR, MI — Michigan Radio is pleased to announce several changes in staffing, including a new weekend morning host. Rina Miller has joined Michigan Radio as a reporter as well as the new on-air host, Saturdays and Sundays from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm. Miller has many years of experience in both print and broadcast journalism as an editor, reporter, producer, and anchor. Most recently, she has been a wire and copy editor at The Ann Arbor News since 2000. Previously, Miller worked as a news anchor at WKLQ in Grand Rapids and WLIF in Baltimore, a producer and program host at Radio Netherlands, and a reporter for ABC Radio News in New York.

Michigan Radio Completes Successful Fall Membership Drive

ANN ARBOR, MI — Michigan Radio, the public radio service of the University of Michigan, finished a very successful fall membership drive last Friday. The on-air fundraiser, which ran from October 17 – 24, generated over 7400 pledges totaling more than $770,000 from donors across southern Michigan and northern Ohio. Of that, over 3400 pledges came from first time donors to the station, a new all-time high, and a 38% increase in new donors compared to a year ago.

Charney joined Michigan Radio in 1997, and has served as Michigan Radio's Interim Program Director since March 2007.
