| Music on KALW |
KALW is proud to bring you music of various genres, a true rarity for public radio stations these days. (Consult our Program Guide for details on upcoming programs.)
On Monday evenings from 9-11 we feature chamber music from such venues as Lincoln Center, Wolf Trap, Music at Menlo, Santa Fe, and other locales. Beginning in April on Mondays at 9pm, we are pleased to present the latest in the "Keeping Score" series, created and hosted by Michael Tilson Thomas. We'll continue at 10pm with the return of Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival broadcasts, and at 11pm it's The Record Shelf with Jim Svejda.
On Wednesday evenings, we've expanded our local blues program to two hours - Fog City Blues with host Devon Strolovitch can now be heard from 9-11pm, followed by Mark Naftalin's Blues Power Hour at 11pm.
On Thursday evenings we invite you to explore music of Africa and the African diaspora with Africa Mix, hosted by Pamela Brown and Emmanuel Nado.
Friday evenings travel from the past to the very present, beginning with an archived My Music from the BBC at 8:30, and music from the Great American Songbook on Fascinatin' Rhythm at 9pm. Chloe Veltman is your host at 10pm for Voice Box, which explores all aspects of the art of vocal singing, followed by an hour of contemporary Music from Other Minds at 11pm.
On Saturdays the focus is on folk and bluegrass in the afternoon hours, with Thistle & Shamrock, Folk Music & Beyond, A Patchwork Quilt, and Bluegrass Signal. Then, from 8 to midnight, Tangents defies categorization, taking you on a genre-bending musical journey.
Sunday evenings bring Then & Now, two hours of classical and new music hosted by Sarah Cahill, followed by Music from the Hearts of Space with host Stephen Hill. KALW is also broadcast home of the Berkeley Symphony Orchestra, which is heard on selected Sunday afternoons.
