On the day after Thanksgiving, November 27, 2009, Public Radio Delmarva and StoryCorps are asking all Americans to start a new holiday tradition: Set aside one hour to interview a friend, a loved one, or someone in their community about his or her life.

Participants are encouraged to record their National Day of Listening interviews using equipment that is readily available in most homes—from cell phones to tape recorders to computers or even pen and paper. StoryCorps has created a free Do-It-Yourself interview guide with equipment recommendations and interview instructions available online at www.nationaldayoflistening.org.

Celebrating Delmarva !

Why do you live here?

Some of us were born on the Delmarva Peninsula, with families stretching back generations. Some of us left but were called back. Others among us are “come here’s”, enjoying the peninsula’s unique qualities.

Public Radio Delmarva’s essay series features a diversity of voices from all walks of life sharing their thoughts and feelings about the place we all call home. To hear all the essays, click here.

Special thanks to the Athletic House for Public Radio Delmarva's "Making a Difference on Delmarva" t-shirts.

Listener Comments
We divide our time almost equally between WSCL and WSDL during the day. The Diane Rehm show and Bill Bukowski's Just Opened are two of our favorites.- Lewes, DE I listen to both but WSDL more often. I am a member but your addition of streaming via iPhone app and the rapid email response of Chris Ranck prompted me to make an additional contribution. Thank you for all you folks do! - West Grove, PA I listen to WSCL most of the time, but sometimes listen to The Diane Rehm show. I love Car Talk, Morning Edition, All Things Considered, and Prairie Home Companion and the Folk Music on Saturday nights. Actually there's nothing that I don't like, just some programs that I like more than others. - Ocean City, MD WSDL - an absolute necessity!– Dagsboro, DE Love WSCL! We listen to NPR news, classical music, Prairie Home Companion, All Things Considered, Lee Ann Hansen and Will Shortz.- Seaford, DE My husband and I listen almost 24/7 to WSCL. Now that we have moved to Maine for the summer, streaming Public Radio Delmarva is vital to us because it keeps us connected to the Delmarva Peninsula and up to date on local news. Hearing the familiar voices of the wonderful WSCL staff is a daily treat for us. Thank you! - Greensboro, MD and Stonington, ME We listen to WSCL for the classical music when we are at our condo in Lewes. Also enjoy the NPR news and features on both WSCL and WSDL. - Wilmington, DE We are regular listeners to the BBC World Service and appreciate that WSDL continues it through the night & early morning. We hope you will continue providing this great educational service to the community. – Lewes, DE Enjoy listening to 89.5 when visiting Lewes DE and online at home. – Minneapolis, MN WSCL….we wake up to you folks every morning! - Lusby, MD I listen to WSDL all the time. I enjoy all of the news programs, but really love the Saturday line up from It's Only a Game on through Wait Wait. Pocomoke, MD I listen to NPR while I travel during work! - Salisbury, MD I listen to 90.7 & listen as I drive to and from work. I also enjoy the PM programs. – Hurlock, MD I am a staff sergeant in the United States Army and where ever I have lived I always listen and donate to my local public radio station. Public radio has always given me the news and great stories that I need to keep me informed and to expand my knowledge. I learn something new every time I listen to my public radio station. To all who listen, please continue to donate because it would be a great loss if public radio did not exist. Annapolis, MD I don't really have a favorite program. Just glad to have classical music, and be able to hear the opera on Saturdays! - Ocean View, DE WSDL….I listen to all the programs as I drive around on my veterinary house calls each day! Salisbury, MD We listen to 90.7 almost exclusively. Morning Edition, Talk of the Nation, Science Fridays, Diane Rehm, BBC World Service, and All Things Considered are our favorites. We cannot afford to pay what this programming is truly worth, but we are proud to become members! – Georgetown, DE Just Folks is the best!!! I look forward to it each week. I am very grateful to John Kalb for his long standing efforts to bring this quality program to Delmarva. I thank him. Berlin, MD In our household we have a talk fan and a classical music fan, so we listen to both stations. I (the talk fan) am a true NPR addict. Other than that --- love your line-up. BIG fan of Terry Gross. Keep up the good work! – Milton, DE 90.7, Car Talk, Wait Wait Don't Tell Me, Prairie Home Companion, Diane Rehm, Terry Gross, and just about any and all talk and informative information news on PRD. – Salisbury, MD I listen to WSDL from the time I wake up until around 6:00 pm. I am retired and I am not a daytime TV person so NPR is perfect for me. It keeps me up to date on all current issues and gives me insight into a lot of really interesting subjects. Laurel, DE WSDL is the best public radio station I've ever heard and I've been a listener for a LOT of years. Keep up the good work. Lewes, DE I listen to WSCL most of the time, but sometimes listen to The Diane Rehm show. I love Car Talk, Morning Edition, All Things Considered, and Prairie Home Companion and the Folk Music on Saturday nights. Actually, there's nothing that I don't like! Ocean City, MD Long time listener, enjoy classics. – Berlin, MD
